On March 23rd, Amoka set off for an adventure to Quail Island. We left Heaton around 9:20 am, full of excitement for the day ahead.
Our first stop on the island was the Ōtamahua Hut, where we sat together for morning tea. From there, we travelled to Te Hamo o Tū Te Rakiwhānoa. It was a special moment as we performed our kapa haka, looking out toward the Port Hills.
We eventually made our way to the first beach for a rest, but the real highlight for me was visiting the shipwrecks. I loved exploring the shoreline, flipping over rocks to find hidden crabs and tiny starfish. It was the best kind of fun. Afterward, we moved to the second beach for lunch and a game of beach cricket. We even braved the water, splashing around up to our knees.
Just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better, we saw two dolphins on the boat ride back. It was a magical way to end the trip. I truly loved our day on the island, and I know the rest of Amoka did, too.
