At Heaton, we are committed to building strong, learning-focused partnerships with our families. We aim to share a wide range of information with you from across the New Zealand Curriculum in various ways.

To achieve this, we use Hero—a secure, easy, and effective online reporting portal that brings teachers, parents, and students together in the learning journey.

Twice a year (at mid-year and end-of-year), teachers will share your child’s current achievement levels in reading, writing, and mathematics. This includes their immediate next steps for learning and practical tips on how you can support them at home. Our regular learning conferences offer a great opportunity to discuss these achievements in more detail.

By the end of the year, both classroom and specialist teachers will share progress updates covering your child’s achievements across all other areas of the curriculum.

Learning isn’t just reported by teachers—it’s owned by the students. Throughout the year, your child will actively post examples of their work from across the curriculum, reflecting firsthand on their own learning journey.

Online reporting is fully supported by face-to-face learning conferences held twice a year involving parents, students, and teachers. This is an excellent time to discuss your child’s academic progress, social development, and to set future goals.

Please Note: You don’t have to wait for a conference to connect. If you have any queries or concerns about your child at any other time during the year, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher.

Throughout the year, we provide a variety of formal and informal opportunities for students to share and celebrate their achievements with whānau. Keep an eye out for:
School assemblies and learning presentations.
Student workbooks brought home.

Curriculum events (such as speech competitions, music appreciation concerts, or sporting events).
